Air Ambulance at Ardleigh Reservoir
Essex Air Ambulance flew the sailor to hospital from Ardleigh Reservoir
A 68-year-old sailor is in a critical condition in intensive care after his boat capsized on a reservoir.

He was taken to hospital in Colchester by Essex Air Ambulance after the accident on Ardleigh Reservoir on Thursday afternoon.

One sailor stayed with the boat while the other, from Colchester, tried but failed to swim to the water's edge.

An ambulance spokesman said the man was pulled from the reservoir and given resuscitation by people on the shore.

The people helping the sailor were given advice on the phone by staff in the emergency operations centre until paramedics arrived.

The other crewmate was rescued and was unhurt but cold.

Both men were wearing cold weather sailing gear.
