Arrest after hanging death

Detectives in Essex have questioned and released a 26-year-old man following the death of a hospital orderly.

Katie Smith, 23, of Basildon, was found hanged at about 0400 GMT on Saturday, at a house in Polsteads Road.

A police spokeswoman said an unnamed man had been arrested on suspicion of assault following the discovery of her body.

He was questioned, and on Sunday was released on police bail until 25 February.

The spokeswoman said investigators were eager to speak to anyone who had seen Miss Smith, who worked at Basildon Hospital, since Christmas.
