Diver airlifted in Portland harbour after rapid ascent

A diver has been rescued after making a rapid ascent while diving off the Dorset coastline.

The male diver was airlifted by a coastguard helicopter from the dive boat Skindeeper, in Portland Harbour on Sunday morning.

A spokesman said: "We received a call at 1105 GMT. The diver was not showing any signs of DCI [the bends] but the dive doctor wanted him to go to A&E."

He was taken to Poole Hospital as a precaution, she added.
