Olympics cycle route views sought

Residents in a Dorset town are being asked their views on a new cycleway aimed at making it easier for 2012 Olympics spectators to get about.

Plans for the Marsh Route footway and cycleway in Weymouth will give cyclists a safe route away from traffic, according to Dorset County Council.

It will use the northern verge of Chickerell Road and join up with the Rodwell Trail at Newstead Road.

People have until 20 November to comment. The work will start in 2010.

The authority's project manager, George Heron, said: "This route will be hugely beneficial for a large proportion of the residential area; it links Budmouth College, the swimming pool, the outdoor education centre and the athletics track."
