A landlord was woken in the early hours when two raiders broke into his pub with one wearing a Scream mask and threatening him with a kitchen knife.

The 46-year-old man confronted the intruders after they got into the Crown and Sceptre pub in Broadhurst Avenue, Bournemouth at about 0230 BST.

The landlord quickly returned to his bedroom and held the door closed as the raiders tried to smash their way in.

The victim managed to call police and the intruders fled empty-handed.

Det Sgt Matt Stacey, of Bournemouth CID, said: "This was a very serious incident at a very popular local pub, which was very distressing for the landlord involved.

"Fortunately no-one was hurt and no items were taken."

The man with the knife is described as short and of stocky build.

He was wearing dark-coloured clothing and a mask like the one featured in the Scream horror films.

The second offender is tall and thin. He was also wearing dark-coloured clothing, with a scarf covering his face.
