A woman had to be rescued after trying to put out a fire in her kitchen in a Dorset town. Firefighters were called to a house in Alexandra Road in Upper Parkstone, Poole, on Thursday evening. An extra fire crew had to be called before the fire could be put out. The woman was given oxygen before being taken to hospital. The fire is thought to have been caused by a toaster. It spread to a tea towel and destroyed the whole kitchen. A spokesman for the fire service said: "On discovering a fire the householder should leave the property along with any other occupier and dial 999 immediately. "Dorset Fire and Rescue Service does not advocate people tackling fires themselves in case far more injuries occur."
