Man stole underwear in house raid

Police in a Dorset seaside town are trying to catch a house burglar who stole several items of underwear.

The burglar smashed a window in a front door to get inside the terraced house, where four women live, in Bath Street, Weymouth, early on Saturday.

Officers said he moved clothes around in two bedrooms before being caught by one of the residents and her boyfriend.

He made off with various items of underwear and police have made an appeal for witnesses.

Det Con Neil Gilbraith, of Dorset Police, said: "The returning occupier realised something was wrong when she saw the broken window and on seeing clothing disturbed in her first-floor bedroom.

"She went up to the second-floor bedrooms and disturbed and challenged the burglar, who charged past her and her boyfriend and ran off."

The burglar was described by police as being in his 30s, slightly overweight with a beer belly and had straight, greasy, shoulder-length hair.

Police urged any witnesses to contact them.
