Terrier survives 100ft cliff fall

A dog has survived after falling nearly 100ft (30.5m) off a Dorset cliff.

The white terrier, named Alfie, fell over the edge while walking with his owners at Peveril Point in Swanage, Dorset, on Sunday.

Coastguard officers used cliff rescue equipment to haul the dog back up. He was unhurt after breaking his fall on a ledge half way down the incline.

A Portland Coastguard spokesman said Alfie was "very lucky" and had "licked to death" his rescuer.

All dog owners are advised to keep their pets on leads and away from cliff edges.
