Briton dies after attack in Spain

A Dorset man has died in hospital after being attacked in a town in southern Spain, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has confirmed.

Stephen Mallon, from Bournemouth, was in Competa near Malaga on 5 June when he was attacked.

The roofer suffered serious head injuries in the incident and had been in a coma for 12 days.

A spokeswoman for the FCO said the family were being offered consular assistance.

Earlier the FCO said: "Two other British nationals were also caught up in the assault and we understand a number of people have been detained."
