Two women rescued from flat blaze

Two woman and a dog were rescued when a fire broke out in the hallway of a second floor flat in Dorset.

The elderly occupant of the flat in Cranborne Road, Swanage, raised the alarm at 1150 BST and was given advice on the phone before fire crews arrived.

A turntable ladder was raised to her window and she was led to safety.

Her neighbour and her pet dog were rescued by firefighters in breathing apparatus. Both women were taken to hospital with smoke inhalation.

A fire investigation officer is at scene trying to establish the cause.
