A climber from Plymouth was rescued after he fell down a cliff in Dorset, suffering a suspected broken leg.

A group of kayakers raised the alarm after they saw the man lose his grip and plunge down the cliff at Church Ope Cove at about 1230 GMT.

Portland Coastguard scrambled its helicopter and airlifted the climber to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester.

A spokeswoman could not establish how far the man had fallen but said that he suffered a suspected broken leg.
