Cats' eyes and road markings are to be reinstated on four resurfaced sections of the B3157 coast road in Dorset, which has a history of collisions.
Dorset County Council said the measures will be reintroduced on the the road between Weymouth and Bridport.
Ways of reducing casualties along the B3157 are being investigated with a £500,000 government grant, it added.
The £1m improvement scheme will be implemented over the next 18 months, the local authority said.
Dorset County Council's head of highways, Andy Ackerman, said: "The general aim is to slow vehicles down to appropriate speeds so that less people are hurt."
