A bulldog had to have a golf ball surgically removed after catching and swallowing it in mid-flight.

Marie Dibben took her one-year-old dog Louis to a vet in Bournemouth, Dorset, after he caught the ball during a walk in the park.

Ms Dibben said Louis had not realised he had swallowed the ball and continued to run around looking for it.

Following surgery and a two-day stay at the veterinary centre, Louis has made a full recovery.

"Although he didn't seem in pain, I rushed him straight to PDSA. I was so worried he was going to choke," said Ms Dibben.

At the Bournemouth veterinary hospital run by the charity People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA), vet Paul Cossey x-rayed Louis' stomach which showed the lodged ball.

"[He] was very lucky," said Mr Cossey.

"If the ball had moved to the small intestines, it could have been life-threatening."

Ms Dibben added: "We are all so pleased he is home, he truly is a wonderful dog."
