Crackdown on night beach parties

Revellers are being warned about a crackdown on late-night beach parties.

Police are to increase weekend patrols of Burlington Chine in Swanage, Dorset, after reports of anti-social behaviour and criminal damage at night-time.

Beach huts have been damaged and broken beer bottles left scattered along the footpath and beach by large groups of young people gathering there.

These incidents are "most prevalent on Friday and Saturday evenings during the summer", Dorset police said.

A spokesman said: "We do want young people to be able to have a good time but this type of behaviour is irresponsible and can have a lasting effect on victims.

"The potential injuries that could be caused by the broken glass don't bear thinking about.

"We shall be paying particular attention to this area of the beach in the evenings for the duration of the summer and will be seizing alcohol from those drinking illegally."
