Father guilty of baby son killing

Kitt Donald Wilson
Police said Mr Wilson "consistently lied" about the death

A 25-year-old father has admitted killing his three-week-old baby son.

Trent Wilson was taken to Poole Hospital in Dorset with head injuries on 8 March 2007, but died the day after at Southampton General Hospital.

Kitt Donald Wilson, from Bournemouth, pleaded guilty to manslaughter when he appeared at Winchester Crown Court on Friday. A charge of murder was dropped.

Police said Wilson "consistently lied" about how his son died. He will be sentenced on 30 May.

Fatal injuries

Det Ch Insp John Crossland, of Dorset Police, said: "This is a tragic case where a three-week-old healthy baby died in brutal circumstances.

"The exact circumstances of what took place prior to Trent's death may never be fully known but what can be said is that his father, Kitt Wilson, lied consistently to health care professionals and the police following Trent receiving the fatal injuries.

"Mr Wilson was in sole charge of Trent and he eventually admitted being responsible for those injuries to his baby son.

"The one person who Trent should have been able to rely on to protect and care for him - his father - failed to do so and, indeed, his father was responsible for his death."
