Woman's body discovered on beach

An investigation has begun following the discovery of a woman's body on a beach in Dorset.

She was found close to the car park at Avon Beach in Mudeford by a member of the public at about 0820 GMT on New Year's Day, police said.

Police believe it is a 57-year-old local woman. She has not been named but her family have been informed.

It is not yet clear how she died but police said they are not treating her death as suspicious.
