The anti drink-drive campaign will be vigilant
Residents and visitors to Dorset are being warned not to get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol or drugs over the festive season.

Chf Insp Rick Dowell, of Dorset Police, has urged people to put travel arrangements in place if they plan to have a drink.

Seventy-one drivers tested positive for driving under the influence from 1 to 14 December during a county crackdown.

Drink-drivers face at least a one-year driving ban and a large fine.

This month's figures for Dorset are 19 less than the same period last year, when 90 drivers gave positive tests, a police spokesman said.

"Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not acceptable at any time, but I particularly appeal to motorists at this time of year - when celebrations are taking place - to be safe and not risk their lives or the lives of innocent road users," Chf Insp Dowell said.

"I am encouraged that we have seen a reduction in the number of dangerous drivers who have tested positive for having excess alcohol or drugs in their body.

"However, the campaign doesn't stop here, we will continue to rigorously enforce the law and continue in our endeavours to make the roads of Dorset safer for everyone."
