Motorists are being asked to sign a pledge they will not break the speed limit in a new safety drive in Dorset.
Purbeck District Council came up with the idea after police checks revealed that the majority of drivers breaking the 30mph limit were local residents.
A council spokesman said: "We hope that signing the pledge will encourage local people to lead by example and help improve the safety of the roads."
It is hoped the initiative will reduce road deaths and accidents in the area.
John Thraves, from the council, said: "Speeding traffic through villages and towns is a primary concern for local people."
Drivers can sign up at various venues in the area over the next few months.
