Knife attacker sent to Broadmoor
Ian Ruby
Ruby could be detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act
A teenager who stabbed three girls as they got off a bus has been sent to Broadmoor for psychological assessment.

Ian Ruby, 19, of Bridport, Dorset, attacked Kirsty Edwards, 17, Charlotte Teague, 14, and 15-year-old Sophie Hyne at a bus stop in August 2006.

Passers-by used towels and their hands to stem the blood before the girls were taken to hospital.

Ruby admitted three charges of wounding with intent at Dorchester Crown Court last November.

On Thursday, Judge John Harrow adjourned sentencing until 13 June.

The case was first adjourned for psychiatric reports until January, but Judge Harrow said further assessment was needed.

The court heard that Ruby has Asperger's Syndrome and an earlier assessment showed he is potentially suffering from a psychopathic disorder.

The attack happened while Kirsty, from Staffordshire, was spending a holiday with Charlotte and Sophie, both from Bridport.

Ruby stabbed Sophie in the face and upper body, Kirsty in the back and stomach, and Charlotte in the chest and abdomen, puncturing her lung.
