Sentencing delay for bus attacker
Ian Ruby
19-year-old Ruby is being assessed for a potential psychopathic disorder
Sentencing of a man who stabbed three schoolgirls on a bus has been delayed for more psychiatric tests.

Ian Ruby, 19, attacked Kirsty Edwards, 17, Charlotte Teague, 14, and Sophie Hyne, 15, as they got off a bus in Bridport, Dorset, on 23 August 2006.

Medical experts believe Ruby has asperger's syndrome and an earlier assessment showed he is suffering from a potential psychopathic disorder.

The case was adjourned and Ruby will be held in hospital until 6 August.

Wounding with intent

Ruby, who was unemployed and lived with his mother in Bridport, attacked the three girls after they teased him on a bus journey, a court heard.

Ruby was caught three days later at St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey, Surrey.

He had gone to casualty with a severe cut to his finger, sustained during the attack, and a nurse alerted police.

Ruby admitted three charges of wounding with intent during a hearing at Dorchester Crown Court, Dorset, last November.

He also admitted possessing a knife and a machete at a hospital in Chertsey when he was arrested on 26 August, during the hearing.

The case has previously been adjourned for psychiatric reports and he was sent to Broadmoor Hospital in Crowthorn, Berkshire.
