Aviation jobs lost as firm shuts
BASCO
The decision was announced after a consultation period
Almost 150 workers at an aviation service business in Dorset have lost their jobs.

Staff at Bournemouth Aviation Services Company Ltd (Basco), based at the town's airport, were told on Thursday morning the firm would close at midday.

The news follows a 90-day consultation period on the future of the company, which maintains commercial aircraft.

Staff working at the business for less than two years will not be entitled to any redundancy pay.

Mark Smith, aircraft engineer, said: "I'm absolutely gutted, it's a couple of days from Christmas, I've got a new family and I'm completely out of work now."

Wayne Baker, a leading hand, added: "In Bournemouth there's nothing really for us."

Singapore Technologies Aerospace Ltd, the company which owns Basco, said in a statement that the closure was not expected to have any impact on its share price.
