More than 50 people have responded to a second appeal on the BBC's Crimewatch programme over the murder of a woman found stabbed and mutilated in Dorset.

The body of Heather Barnett, 48, was found by her two children at the family home in Bournemouth in November, 2002.

She was holding strands of hair that did not belong to her.

Dorset police said four of the calls after the broadcast on Wednesday night were from women who had their hair cut in suspicious or unusual circumstances.

Det Supt Phil James, of Dorset Police, said: "There were some very interesting calls and I'm very pleased with the response.

"I would urge women to come forward and report such incidents, even if they think that they may have been a prank or a joke."

An initial appeal on the programme in September prompted 485 calls, one of the largest responses ever in the history of Crimewatch.
