Postie snaps up photography prize
Winning photograph of deer in Arne
Steve Dowdall spotted the deer on his round in rural Dorset
A postman from Dorset has won a national photography competition.

Royal Mail, which organised the contest, gave out 1,000 disposable cameras so postmen could record "a slice of life on the delivery round".

About 20,000 photographs were submitted with 240 included in a book called "Unseen UK" which will help raise funds for Help the Hospices.

Wareham postman Steve Dowdall won the 1,000 first prize for his photograph of deer taken on his round in Arne.

Writer and documentary film maker Jon Ronson, who was one of the judges, said: "There's a beautiful intimacy to this collection.

"It's a book full of funny, sad, warm and surprising moments: moments that would usually be dismissed as too insignificant to be worth immortalising.

"But these are the million tiny things that make us the country we are."
