The public's access to a stretch of Dorset coastland has been guaranteed after it was sold to the National Trust for more than £680,000.

East Man, a stretch of farmland near Worth Matravers, forms part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

The National Trust has vowed to allow walkers on the site and to improve conditions for wildlife.

A five-year restoration of walls on the site, using local dry stone-wallers and quarry men, is also to be undertaken.

Doug Whyte, National Trust's property manager for Purbeck, said: "Public access and the nature conservation value of East Man is at the heart of our decision to acquire this land for the nation."
