Portland Sailing Academy
The academy will be the centre of Olympic competition in 2012
A sailing academy where the part of the 2012 Olympics is being held has won a regional award for its new building.

Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy has won the Royal Town Planning Institute's Phil Barclay Silver Cup for the best development in the south west.

The award was being presented at the academy on Monday.

The 7.85m purpose-built venue will host some of the Olympic competitions as well as providing accommodation for the athletes.

The judging panel praised the academy for being environmentally sensitive and for originality.

John Tweed, from the sailing academy, said the award was a "very nice recognition of an exceptional project".
