Seaside development plans on hold

It is hoped the artificial reef would turn the town into a surf resort
A dramatic £8m seaside revamp which would include Europe's first artificial surf reef has been put on hold after concerns were raised by councillors.

The plans for Boscombe seafront, Bournemouth, have been delayed because the council wanted more details on the parking and leisure facilities.

The reef, which would create 4ft waves, has been approved but will not go ahead until everything is agreed.

More detailed plans will be submitted to the council in the near future.

Councillor Rob Copeland, cabinet member for Boscombe Regeneration, said: I am disappointed that our exciting plans for Boscombe seafront were not approved by the board, but pleased that there was no move to reject the proposals.

"We will now be pulling out all the stops to refine our plans and come back to the board as soon as we can."
