Warm-up race for Ironman athletes
Hundreds of athletes have warmed up for the annual Ironman contest with a gruelling triathlon.

Some 400 contestants battled it out in the swimming, cycling and running event in Weymouth, Dorset, on Sunday.

The race started at 0700 BST with a 1,900m (1.2 miles) swim, followed by a 90km (56 miles) cycle and ended with a 13 mile (21km) half marathon run.

Athletes face an even tougher challenge at the full UK Ironman contest at Sherborne Castle on 21 August.

UK Ironman competitors must swim, cycle and run double the distances in Sunday's contest.

On Sunday, swimmers took to the sea at Greenhill for a race to the Pavilion end of the beach and back, before embarking on the cycling and running legs of the event.
