Traffic-busting link road to open
The delayed opening of a 2.5m traffic-busting link road is finally set to take place.

The Chickerell link road, connecting the Dorset village to the north east of Weymouth, opens on Monday.

The road between the B3157 and the A354 was to open in December but bad weather delayed the testing of traffic lights.

Council chiefs hope the road will reduce traffic on residential roads in the area and improve access to the Granby industrial estate.

Councillor Angus Campbell, the county council's member for transport, said: "This is a real step forward in tackling traffic problems in the Weymouth area.

"Motorists should now enjoy much quicker, easier journeys.

"At the same time it will relieve a lot of pressure on a number of residential roads in the area, giving people cleaner, safer, more peaceful and less crowded streets."
