Diabetics in binge-drinking study
A study into the effects of binge-drinking on diabetics is to be carried out at a Dorset hospital.

Staff at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital's Diabetes and Endocrine Centre are looking for volunteers to take part in the study.

The year-long research will look at the physical effects of heavy drinking on people with type one diabetes.

Researchers said they would not be "forcing" volunteers for the study to drink more than they normally would.

Dr David Kerr, consultant physician at the centre, said: "We do not condone binge-drinking but we realise people do drink and this research is important to know the effects of alcohol for those with diabetes and how to keep them safe."

The hospital has been given £6,000 in funding from medical research charity Hope to carry out the work.

Volunteers need to have had diabetes for more than five years, have four injections to control diabetes a day and be aged over 18.
