A pilot from Devon is recovering after his helicopter hit power lines and crashed into a field.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Poundsgate near Newton Abbot just before 1800 BST on Monday.

The pilot, who is local to the area, was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth by air ambulance.

About 150 homes lost their electricity, but power was restored by midnight. The crash has been reported to the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.

A spokesman from Devon and Cornwall Police said the condition of the pilot, who was the only occupant of the aircraft, is not known, but he was believed to have sustained only minor injuries.

The Hughes 500 helicopter was severely damaged in the crash.
