A Devon teacher has appeared in court charged with murdering her 10-day-old baby son.

Kate Norris, 30, of Pine Close, Brixham, was remanded in custody for five weeks at Exeter Crown Court.

Ms Norris, a teacher at Paignton Community College, appeared via video link from Eastwood Park Prison where she is being assessed by doctors.

Emergency services were called to Pine Close on Tuesday after reports that a baby had stopped breathing.

The baby, Leo, was taken to Torbay Hospital but he was later pronounced dead.

A family spokesman said: "It is with great sadness a tragedy has happened within our close family."
