A driver from Devon ended up in a river in her car - with the vehicle perched on its bonnet at an angle of nearly 90 degrees.

The woman, in her 70s, is in a "stable" condition with leg injuries after the accident in Chillaton on Wednesday.

It is understood she mistakenly hit the accelerator and drove through the back wall of a garage, landing in the water some 3m (10ft) below.

She escaped from the car and was found by police in the river.

She was taken to hospital suffering from leg injuries and the effects of the cold.
