Building work on two controversial new towns in Devon is expected to begin next year.

More than 5,000 homes are due to be built in the Sherford Valley on the outskirts of Plymouth.

Another 3,000 homes will be built at Cranbrook in east Devon, but both have been delayed because of the economic downturn and planning issues.

Building work at Cranbrook is now due to start in March, with construction at Sherford expected in the summer.
