New freeze brings roads warning

Car accident at Avonwick
Two people were injured in a crash at Avonwick near Totnes

Drivers are being warned to expect another night of icy conditions on the roads in Devon.

Sub-zero temperatures, snow showers and ice have caused problems across many parts of Devon in recent days, with a number of minor accidents.

More accidents are feared overnight with clear skies forecast and temperatures set to drop to -5C (23F) .

While many A and B roads have been gritted, some minor roads have been left untreated.

Local authorities have admitted they do not have enough supplies to grit all roads.

In one accident earlier, a car and a van collided at Avonwick near Totnes, but neither of the two drivers were seriously injured.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said motorists should consider if their journeys are necessary.
