Skateboard pigeon killer guilty

A teenager has pleaded guilty to killing a pigeon by hitting it with a skateboard.

Raphael Thomas, of Sidbury, Devon, was charged with intentionally killing a wild bird following the incident in Parliament Street, Exeter, last month.

The 19-year-old was given a three-month conditional discharge at Central Devon Magistrates' Court.

Magistrates said his guilty plea had been taken into account. Thomas was also ordered to pay £85 in costs.

The RSPCA said it was pleased magistrates had dealt with Thomas "appropriately".

"It's good he's faced up to what he's done by pleading guilty and it's good the court has taken the matter seriously and given an appropriate sentence," a spokeswoman said.
