Hundreds in flashmob pillow fight

Hundreds of people have taken part in a pillow fight organised through social networking sites.

An estimated 400 pillow fighters joined in a melee of flying feathers in the centre of Plymouth, Devon.

The 10-minute fight next to the Big Screen, arranged through the Flashmob website, was watched by about 15 police, with no arrests.

Police said they would attempt to track down the organisers to pay for the clear-up.

University student Jessi Dimmock, 20, told BBC News: "Everyone was having a laugh, it was just great fun.

"It shows the power of social networking sites to organise something like this without advertising.

"I also think it's like an art form in a way, but mainly it's about getting people together in a peaceful and fun way."

Sgt John Naismith said: "Our concern was that up to 3,000 people said they would be attending.

"Around us there are young children out shopping and there could have been injuries.

"There is a mess so my expectation is that we will be forwarding the bill to Plymouth City Council who can present it to the organisers."
