HSBC bank's door 'open all night'

It is not known if the door was left unlocked or the lock was faulty

The door of a Devon bank was left open all night, it has emerged.

The alarm was raised by worried employees when they arrived for work at the HSBC in Newton Abbot on Thursday morning and found the door unsecured.

Staff and customers were kept outside as police officers, including a dog handler, searched the building which is currently being renovated.

The burglar alarm had not gone off and nothing appears to have been taken, but the bank is investigating the incident.

No-one from the bank was available for comment.

A police spokeswoman said it was unclear whether an employee or one of the contractors had failed to lock the door, or whether the lock mechanism on the door was faulty.
