An Anglican priest from Cornwall has appeared in court, charged with a series of historical indecency offences against girls at a Plymouth school.

Canon James Wilson, 60, of Calstock, allegedly assaulted six girls under 13 between 1977 and 1978 when he taught at Pennycross Primary School.

Mr Wilson denied the charges. Plymouth magistrates adjourned the case until 10 November and he was remanded on bail.

Mr Wilson, ordained in 1982, has stepped down as a Truro Diocese priest.
