Priest on under-age sex charges

An Anglican priest has been charged with a series of indecency offences against girls at a Plymouth school.

Canon James Wilson, 60, of Calstock, Cornwall, allegedly assaulted six girls under 13 between 1970 and 1987 when he taught at Pennycross Primary School.

Mr Wilson, who was ordained in 1987, was bailed by police to appear before Plymouth magistrates on 16 September.

Canon Wilson has stepped down as priest of Calstock in the Diocese of Truro. The diocese is assisting police.
