Devon unemployment is up by 131%

Unemployment in Devon is more than 130% higher than a year ago, according to the Office for National Statistics.

About 10,500 people claimed Jobseekers' Allowance in the county in June, though the numbers were down on the previous month as seasonal work picked up.

However, they were still 131% higher than the same period in 2008, equalling 2.4% of the working population.

The overall UK rate of unemployment among the working age population is currently 7.6%.
