Beach is to get PCSO for summer

Croyde Beach is the first in Devon to get a beach beat PCSO

A north Devon beach is to get its own dedicated Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) for the summer season.

PCSO Jo Carter, who is based in Braunton, will have her beat extended to include Croyde Beach from Friday.

She will join the beach's RNLI lifeguards on patrols after having had lifeguard and first aid training.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it hoped PCSO Carter would make the beach feel safer for users, and let lifeguards concentrate on core responsibilities.

The force has had two other Beach Beat PCSOs in its area, at Fistral and Perranporth beaches in Cornwall.
