Arson attack causes £10K damage

Arsonists have caused £10,000 damage to a block of flats in Cornwall.

The fire was started at the base of the communal door of the flats at Trenance Road in Camborne soon after 0200 BST on Friday.

A passer-by raised the alarm after seeing smoke coming from the gas meter box at the front of the building.

No-one was injured in the attack which police said had been started by an accelerant. Devon and Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses.

A force spokesperson said: "This was an extremely dangerous fire.

"It is fortunate that someone saw the smoke and rang the fire brigade immediately as any fire near the main could, potentially, cause extensive damage."
