Three youngsters killed in crash

Crash scene
The road was closed for more than nine hours following the crash

A nine-year-old boy and two youths aged 17 and 18 died when their car left the road and struck a hedge in Devon.

Fire crews were called to the A379 at Aveton Gifford, near Kingsbridge, late on Saturday.

Police and ambulance officers also attended the accident, which involved a Vauxhall Corsa, at about 2300 BST. The road was shut for more than nine hours.

The teenagers and the boy are said by police to have come from the South Hams area.

Floral tributes

Devon and Cornwall Police said all three occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

Prayers were said for them at the local church's Sunday morning service and friends and relatives placed floral tributes at the spot where they died.

A friend of the two teenagers who died described them as "brilliant, generous and welcoming" people.

Inquiries have begun into the cause of the accident.

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the black Corsa travelling between the Bantham Cross roundabout and Aveton Gifford.
