Woman rescued from kitchen fire

A woman has been rescued from a flat on Plymouth's Barbican after a fire broke out in the kitchen.

The woman was trapped in the first floor flat in Vauxhall Street in the early hours, Devon and Somerset Fire Service said.

Three fire engines were called out to rescue the woman just after 0230 BST.

She was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
