The city of Plymouth has taken part in the first national Armed Forces Day.

A service was held at St Andrew's Church and there was a badge presentation for some of the city's veterans at the city's Guildhall.

Lord Mayor Ken Foster thanked service personnel past and present for carrying out their duties.

The Commander and Chief of the Royal Air Force Air Command, Air Chief Marshall Sir Christopher Moran, was the special guest.

Sir Christopher said: "When I look around today at everything that's been organised, it really is a truly great tribute to the armed forces that the city has provided here, and we're most grateful."

Veterans Day has been renamed Armed Forces Day to remind people of the work being carried out by the UK's current service personnel.
