Some 400 teams will take part in the two-day trek across Dartmoor

Part of Dartmoor has become a city of tents as 2,400 teenagers prepare for the start of the Ten Tors challenge on Saturday morning.

The 400 teams taking part in the annual trek across the moor have set up camp at Okehampton, Devon.

Participants aged between 14 and 20 will cover up to 55 miles (88.5km) over two days.

The teams taking part need to be completely self-sufficient to complete the challenge.

They will be joined by up to 300 children with special needs who will also cross the moor on Saturday in the seven-mile (11km) Jubilee Challenge.

The event is organised by the army, who man check points at the top of 10 nominated tors [hills topped with granite outcrops].

It will be the 49th year the event has taken place.
