Police have identified a teenager who died when a car was in collision with a tractor pulling a trailer in Devon.

Daniel Lang, 14, of Plymouth, was in a Suzuki Alto being driven along the A38 at Ashburton when it was involved in the crash on Monday.

He died at the scene along with fellow Plymouth passenger Melissa Barnham, 24.

The 26-year-old woman driver, also from Plymouth, suffered a broken arm. A 45-year-old Liverpool man and a 17-year-old Plymouth youth are in hospital.

The pair, who were flown to hospital together with the driver, are said to be in a serious but stable condition at Derriford Hospital.

According to Devon and Cornwall Police, the driver of the tractor, a 17-year-old youth from the Newton Abbot area, escaped injury.

The accident, which happened on the westbound carriageway of the A38 shortly before 0900 BST, led to the road being closed for about eight hours and resulted in Ashburton town centre being severely congested for a while.

Ms Barnham's parents earlier paid tribute to her, saying they were "devastated" at the "tragic loss" of their "beautiful daughter".

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.
