Gunman in apartment block siege

Armed police have been called to an apartment block in Devon after reports that a man, believed to be armed with an airgun, had been making threats.

The armed officers and police dog units were called to an address in Oldham Road, Hatherleigh, at 1615 GMT.

The area around the two-storey block has been cordoned off and neighbours are being advised to stay indoors.

A spokeswoman for Devon and Cornwall Police said only the 42-year-old man was believed to be in the flat.

She added that police negotiators were in contact with the man and were "trying to resolve the situation safely".
