Engineering firm could lay off 95

Up to 95 jobs could be lost at a South Devon engineering firm.

Centrax in Newton Abbot has begun a 30-day consultation period with unions to lessen the impact of the cuts.

The company, which makes gas turbines, is blaming "difficult market conditions" and the collapse of the supply chain.

The firm, which was founded in 1946, has a total workforce of about 700, and made nearly 300 workers redundant in 2001 and 2002.
