Staff suspended at county council

A number of employees have been suspended by Devon County Council.

The suspensions are believed to be the result of an investigation into the inappropriate use of work computers and e-mails.

It is believed the members of staff work for the Children and Young People's services.

The council would not confirm the exact nature of the investigation, but said suspending staff on full pay was normal protocol during investigations.

In a statement, a spokesman for the council said: "I can confirm we have suspended a small number of staff while an investigation into a number of issues takes place.

"Suspension is a neutral action to allow the investigation to proceed."
